I hung out at a lake house in Michigan with a bunch of high school friends for a week. So, not exactly camping or hiking, but we did a lot of outdoors-y stuff. It all involved equipment that you kind of need a cabin or house to store it all in, or maybe things you rent at campsites.
Me on a kayak.
My friend Alex, whose parents' house we stated at is in the yellow one.
Now I want a kayak. To save space, I'd get this COLLAPSABLE KAYAK
Kayak sitting on the dock.
View of the lake, from the backyard.
The house is on a smaller lake, and Lake Michigan is on the other side, across the street (there's maybe half a mile wide land between them).
Overnight a bunch of bugs died all over the back deck. There was just a layer of tiny dead bugs all over, hahahah.
Carey walking to the beach on the Lake Michigan side ("South Beach").
There are islands (South Manitou Island) farther out in Lake Michigan that supposedly you can go boat out to and camp overnight on. I will investigate this next year.
SLEEPING BEAR DUNES (a national park!)-- about a half hour away from where we were staying were some dunes you could hike up. This is an unflattering pic of the grass between the parking lot and the dunes. I was kind of "ugh whatever" about the dunes, but after you climb a couple of the peaks, you get a nice view of Lake Michigan.
Anddddd when I was leaving for the airport, I found a toad on the driveway. (Fun fact: Frogs have to live by water, toads are everywhere else.)
